LXI Consortium Hosted the First Public LXI Day at 12th PlugFest

The
LXI Consortium recently hosted its12th PlugFest and the first ever LXI Day in Toronto. While the PlugFest on May 21-22 was an LXI Consortium members-only event, LXI Day, hosted by Testforce Systems on May 23, was for the general test and measurement community. This complimentary special event showcased technical application presentations that explained benefits offered by LXI, its importance to the future of test and measurement, and how it can be implemented in a diverse array of applications. Working demonstrations of LXI products also were held.
During LXI Day, attendees learned technical basics and benefits, including setup and configuration. They also were given the opportunity to consult with industry experts and some of the more than 50 member LXI companies.
"We were very pleased with the response to our first LXI Day," said Bob Rennard, president of the LXI Consortium. "The opportunity to get new groups excited and involved in LXI is a priority, especially as the adoption of LXI-compliant devices accelerates and the value of LXI continues to increase."

The LXI Consortium uses PlugFests to test new instruments to assure they meet the requirements of the LXI Standard. An independent testing lab, hired and paid for by the LXI Consortium during the PlugFest, is offered as a free service to all LXI members. It's also a time for numerous technical and marketing committees involved with the development of the standard to meet and discuss the standard and technology advancements. The consortium announced that these products were certified as LXI-compliant since the PlugFest held Feb. 11, 2008.

The PlugFest conducted interoperability tests on eligible instruments using five different software packages. This included assembling and testing a network of instruments using standard networking components. The interoperability testing places products in real-world scenarios that demonstrate how the discovery setup protocols enable a system to be assembled from disparate components and still deliver the speed, simplicity, and power for which LXI-certified instruments are known.
Introduced in 2005, the LXI Standard has been rapidly adopted by more than 50 companies, representing a who's who of the test and measurement industry. They recognize LXI as the natural evolution of the test and measurement instrument interface, making it easier for test system designers and integrators to create faster, more efficient systems. To date, more than 500 products have been certified as being compliant with the LXI Standard, and annual sales of LXI-equipped test and measurement equipment now exceed $200 million.
